hes right about the dry cow. They don't need much to keep going. A good grass pasture in the summertime works well for us here in maine. In the winter ours get 1st crop hay a saltblock and tad bit of grain. Some people I think somehow feed selenium and vit E for calving and cleanout but we just treat them at dryoff time with that stuff and they are reall easy to be cared for when dry.
