Drilling Corn

Yep, I tried it. After about the 150th ear you can't grip the cob tight enough to back the drill out. The one I used was at the local canning plant and the ring that cuts the corn was inside a 12 inch piece of pvc pipe so corn didn't go flying all over the room.

Purty Slick I say.
We used to have to shuck and then slice while my mother froze and canned. Usually she would get 50 doz at a time.

Wow--thanks. I have one of those gizmos and I never knew what it was for. I'll have to dig it out next year.

(I usually just set up a router fence and go to town with 18,000 rpm router bit. It don't take long either.)

Mine is mounted in PVC too. Not that large though.

Yours is probably like the one they had. Twelve inches long, not diametrically. The guy at the canning plant said next time you want to do 500 ears or more go to the Perry canning plant where they have a machine where all you have to do is shuck and silk and stick in a tube and corn comes out in one place and cobs in another. It took a while to do 500 ears with that drill rig including shucking, silking, and bagging, like 6 hrs.

That sounds like the contraption my buddy has. They make them near Waycross in some guys shop. All you do is push cobs into a throat and its a done deal.
