double AIing

As my user name implies I have zero experience with AI, but in my fantasy world I have this GREAT IDEA. Hear me out then tell me how dumb it is.

In my ideal world it is possible, by using a combination of techniques, to almost pinpoint the exact start of estrus. Knowing that it will last 15-21 hours I propose the following protocol:
1. Wait six hours and AI
2. Wait another six hours and AI again
3. Wait 30 days and preg check by blood test
4. Sell off any open cows
5. Eliminate the clean-up bull.
Start with enough cows so that after the sell-off you are left with the desired number of pregnant cows.
What is the best, worst and most likely to happen?
Just wondering

More cost than is needed. Until couple of years ago we did 100% AI, no bull on the place. Cows got 2 heats to settle if needed. Had less than 10% requiring a second breeding.

Semen is packaged with certain fertility benchmarks in mind. It's not as simple as "more is always better". To see any real improvement in conception rates from more semen you would need to use more like five straws instead of two. Semen is much longer lived than most people give it credit for so waiting six hours and breeding them again is going to give you about the same results as breeding them once as the semen you installed six hours ago is still viable and by the time you've run them through the chute to sync and breed them that extra trip through is more harm than good in the form of stress. About the only time I'll breed one twice is if I don't know when she started and then I might breed her again in twelve hours but in syncronized cattle that is a lot of extra money and effort for very little return as you already know when they ovulated.
