Checked on her last night at dark, and here we are this morning. The heifer is alive and I'll try to get her up in a hour or so. Just the other day I was bragging on how everything was going along so well. Some you win, some you loose. Hopefully we'll get back on another good roll.

Sad. Very sad. Hope you get back on your track record.

That is a big calf assuming the photo is a good representation.

When I saw that photo, my heart sank. Sorry about your loss, truly! I watch my cattle obsessively, and spoke to someone the other day in the business that makes me sound lax when it comes to keeping an eye on them. With that said, no matter how close you watch, as you know something is going to go wrong. Last year I thought I was kicking azz and taking names until I had a stunning EXAR Denver bull calf die at birth, and a Conneally Comrade female die because momma for some reason couldn't get the placenta off the nostrils. It can humble you really fast, even though you don't seem to be the type that brags.

Things will improve, and again, terribly sorry about your loss.

Bloody annoying when they get it out that far and gets stuck. Was that a hip lock?

Sort of I guess, but I just pulled the calf out without turning it. She wasn't having any labor contractions so I think she just wore out. Timing is everything and luck just wasn't on our side today.

How old is that heifer? Do you know what she weighs?

She was born on 4/9/17. I have no idea on her weight, 900+lbs? Seems like when we added Hereford, we added problems. I personally think it's more of a numbers game.

i'm assuming you've given her a shot of dex? that would help her out a lot, and some sweet feed and goodies if she's got some appetite

Yes 15 cc dex, 5 cc Multi Min 90. I'll get serious tomorrow if need be. She drinks some but hasn't ate, I hate to stress her anymore than she already is.

Mr. Danny I think your right. You double your herd, you double your odds of problems. My wife doesn't comprehend numbers very well.

Well that's a shame Grit, sorry for your luck. Looks like she had the hard work done. Good dose of Metacam wouldn't be a bad idea either while we're were tossing around suggestions for things to poke into her.
