What kind of tree is that ? It is beautiful !

I thought I heard a few geese this morning heading North , but it might just have been the 4 cows that were calving . :?

Redbud? Mine aren't blooming yet but the lupine, popcorn, fiddleneck, and poppies sure think spring is here.
Around here the shadberry is usually ahead of the red buds but they aren;t doing anything. The wid jonquils started to bloom just before this last snow though

To answer your question technically, no it doesn't. The first day of spring comes when Isomade (that's me) starts checking cows in nothing more than a tube sock while riding a 4-wheeler :D . I'll post Pics to let y'all know. Nice pics though.

Yes it is a redbud. I dug it up in the woods and planted it over 20 years ago and it looks this good every spring. My pictures don't come close to how beautiful it is. It's blooming a couple of weeks early it did the same thing last year. The red maples have been blooming since valentines day and the pines are pollinating. It is sure looking like an early spring here but it is supposed to get down into the twenties this weekend. If it does it will be our coolest temps of the winter.

Redbuds will fool ya--no matter how old they are. So will those native non-bearing pear trees that bloom white starting mid Feb. I have loads of both here, and they've been budding out and starting to bloo, even a couple weeks ago when we had a heavy frost.

Absolutely....I always look for the pecan and mesquite to begin to bud out. Pretty good indicator of spring.

Especially the older pecan, hickory, and pignut trees. When I lived out in San Angelo, they went by the bigger mesquite, saying the younger trees were liars.
I've seen lots of cold nasty weather for the Houston Fat Stock Show parade over the decades.

my cattle are acting like it spring already, and its looking like it.... next few days are gonna kick our ass though... temp at night in the lows 20's and 30+ during the days...ive been killing skeeters already

these are the big'uns.... the type where two, try to lift you up by your shoulders and haul you off...

"Do we eat him here or take him back to the woods?"

"We better eat him here--if we take him back to the woods, the big 'uns will take him from us"

The dewberries are blooming like crazy here and the wildflowers have started too. Our fruit trees are blooming too.

I put in a whole new crop of boysenberries last year. Tied vines all summer. Been watching them close and there are no buds yet. The wild plum bushes are all flowered out.
