Sometimes things are introduced to us and we just take them for granted and they just become a part of everyday life.

Like the gooseneck cattle trailer, in what state , who made it and what year was it introduced, Air conditioned tractor , what year and who introduced it, Round baler , what year and who made it, Can you all think of other farming or ranching items we take for granted.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the first round baler was introduced by Allis Chalmers back in the late 40's. Won't swear by it, but I think that's right. Don't know about the other two.

When did they quit giving people credit for their work? Pittsburg frame, Sheffield sweeps, Cole planters, Tygart sprayers and the like all gave credit to someone. Now I guess its all a patent number or something.

Paulk spreader. See how your back feels after spending a July hot day in Ga. dumping hundred pound bags of land plaster into one of those.

AC did make a small round baler back in the 40s or 50s I hauled a bunch of bales behind one of them

I have always thought Vermeer made the first large round baler back in the late 60s but I could be mistaken

The first major manufacturer of gooseneck stock trailers I beleive was either gooseneck or Neckover and they started showing up in the early 70s around here

The first gooseneck trailer I ever saw was in the mid 60's, when 2 brothers built one in local hs ag class. It used the same design that Gooseneck, Dugan and others use. Dad bought a Dugan gooseneck in 1971. It was built in Central TX, not too far from where Gooseneck is located.

Everybody know what Jethro Tull is famous for? Not the band.

My BIL was making double deck goosneck trailers in his own shop to haul sheep in back in the early 60's in Ft. Stockton, Texas.

No. John Deere developed the self-cleaning plow. Jethro Tull developed something else that fits between Deere's invention and McCormick's invention.

Jethro improved the plow and grain drill. Workers were not in favor of grain drill because they thought it would take away their jobs.
Advocated using horses instead of oxen, etc.
Did not think fertilizer was neceessary if soil was pulverized to release nutrients.

Found him on Wikipedia.

Ain't that the truth. Even after they do the math on the calculator they can't count it out of the drawer.

When I was in school, they taught how to count money, penmanship, how to read a ruler, and how to identify different trees by their leaves. None of which is taught today.

 Again......What for? Don't need money - Got the debit/credit card. Penmanship - who actually writes anything on a piece of paper. Read a ruler - What for, using one usually means hard labor. Identifying trees? Aren't they poluting the air with CO2? Naw, all that is a waste of time for kids. They need to learn how to use computers.

That's the truth.

I used to run a mechanical cash register and had to figure the tax in my head and then figure out how much change to give. I stopped at Burger King the other day with my son and grandsons, and our total was $23.87. Gave the girl $30 and she entered it as $300 by mistake. She had absolutely no idea how to figure out how much change to give me. :dunce: I told her $6.13 and she gave it to me. I honestly think she'd have given me any amount I asked for just to avoid the confusion.
