A kindle fire? If so how do you like it and what features does it have? How is it compared to say an IPAD? Thanks

I have one and it's okay for what it does. You can only access the internet via wireless. I don't know anything about an iPad except you can subscribe and get internet anywhere. I believe there's about $300.00 dollars in price.

I like the Kindle when I'm in the recliner and want to see something or at the hospital waiting. I do have a problem typing on it, tho. Always hitting something I shouldn't, but I do that on my iPhone, too.

MY mother inlaw that has tremors and can't even sign her name has the kindle fire. She likes it. But she got it mainly for reading. Not so much for Internet access

and is it easy to read books on there? Expensive to buy them? I see from a you tube video that it has a keypad that can be made to touch to disappear-sounds kind of neat

I've seen a couple I-Pads. More expensive but they do a bit more. I personally don't want one, but if the gov't has any money left when the cell phone giveaway is finished; y'know; just layin' around looking like a vote--

Wife has the "Nook" tablet from Barnes and Noble. Had the original "Nook" for several years for reading but really loves the new tablet.

Not this one. But I've used both and the fire beats the nook hands down.
And we know I'm never right so take it for what it's worth

Ford or Chevy?

Friends have both. Some never get on to CT therefore they don't need an Ipad.

A close friend has a Kindle and that it takes care of everything he needs. I like the Ipad. My data plan runs about $25 a month but I can access the net from anywhere with no issues.

Yep, I have one and use it daily. Gal has one too. The Kindle Fire is $199 at any Best Buy as opposed to $399 for a 16 gig WiFi IPad II at Walmart. The Kindle is classified as mainly a 'Reader' (for reading electronic books) but you can check and send email with it, play games and surf the web too. It runs strictly off of a WiFi connection. The IPad can be purchased with just WiFi or with WiFi and 3G or 4G internet connectivity (a lot more $'s) The IPad has a larger screen and so surfing the web is easier.

If you like to read, it's hard to beat the Kindle Fire. Font sizes can easily be changed to make reading easier and some books can be shared with others. The battery life is great as is tech support! The Nook is alright but, many question how much longer Barnes and Noble can exist in the market. The Kindle runs off of Amazon.com. Hope this helps.

They should be fine as they just worked a big deal with Microsoft.

sounds like a nifty lil gadget for my son-thanks for the replies
GMN we only use them as electronic readers but before I got mine I bet I hadn't read one book in 30 years. Have probably read 50 since getting the e-reader. Being able to change fonts and sizes sure helps.

I have had a Sony reader for 4 or 5 years. It doesn't do much but allow me to download books and read them. The nice part is that there are hundreds of free books. I used to spend $20 per week on paperbacks
