My sons 99 Dodge 1500 truck has the Magnum V8 motor in it. It only has 70,xxx miles on it and is using two quarts of oil a week.

Anyone else have problems with the Dodges using oil? Any ideas of a motor flaw that makes this a common problem?

I do not see any oil around valve covers. I need to park it over a sheet or something to see if it is leaking, but i have at this point never saw an oil leak.

Are they known for valve problems? never really noticed it smoking but one time I was lugging it and mashed down the gas and saw some blow.

Make sure the PCV valve is not clogged and see if that engine has a crankcase filter. Not real familar with Dodge but if if can't breath pressures from normal blowby buildup in the crankcase and force it to use oil. Seen it many times.

A guy I used to work with had one with the 360 that the intake manifold gasket let loose on. Either using oil or antifreeze, just can't remember which, it's been a few years ago.

As CF said, about the only common problem on the Magnum engine was the intake manifold gasket letting go, but at 2 quarts/week, I'd think you'd see it pretty plain. As was mentioned, check the PCV valve and make sure its not stuck, then do a compression test. Magnum engines aren't known for burning excessive amounts of oil, but you may have a dud.

Never would have thought of this! Thanks!

Like a rock, I was strong as I could be, like a rock. Sorry Dodge and Chevy are the same to me: THEY AIN'T A FORD and that's what I had to say on the subject.

Honestly sounds like pcv or intake, we had one for a few years and the intake did the same thing as a million others did.
