dodge clutch problem

I have a 2007 dodge 3500 4x4 6.7 diesel with just over 100'000' miles that i have had since new and the clutch is slipping with a load in 5th and 6th at 1700rpms. just wondering if anyone else has had the same thing at such low miles and also how much should i expect to pay for parts and how big of job is it on this truck. thanks

Bet thar was pretty sweet, getting a new truck like that at 15.

It was neat getting it at 15 i was home schooled so i had worked with my dad for years and instead of getting paid i got land cows a truck and equipment and i still work every day to help pay for some of it.

I went through 3 clutches by the time my 08 had 170 k miles on it . The remedy I suggest is to trade it in . That's what I had to do .

Don't have any experience with a Dodge truck specifically but I can tell you that, in general, you're looking at a hospital bill. I would expect to have to pay in excess of $2000 and I would not recommend you trying to do it yourself. Clutch disk itself is pretty cheap but you may also need a pressure plate (and throwout bearing, and pilot bearing). In all, just guessing, you will have $200 to $300 in parts.

You say it is a 4X4 so that means you've got a transfer case hanging off the back of the transmission. Transfer case plus transmission weighs more than 200 lbs. That means you will need to use a transmission jack (not a floor jack) to handle the xmission/xfer so you can line up the input shaft to the pilot bearing when you start back together with it. You will also need a pilot bearing alignment tool.

Clutches going out prematurely depends a lot on how you drive it. "Riding" the clutch, trying to get the truck moving in a higher gear than required are but just a couple of clutch killers. If you feel the clutch failed because of a factory design error you can have a custom clutch built that will last you as long as you own the vehicle and for not much more than the cost of a factory clutch.

why don't you look into buying an aftermarket clutch that is built to handle the power the Cummins puts out. Join one of the Cummins diesel fourms they are for diesel truck owners just like Cattle Today is for Cattlemen and Women. You will find loads of good advice and places to solve your problem. Remember It's gonna cost you.

thanks for all the replys. I have always felt like i was prety easy on the clutch so i did not really think that it was the way i drive.from what i am hearing this may not be as uncommen as i thought. at this point i don't know if we will do it ourselves but we do have expeirence in this kind of thing just not on these models of trucks if we did do it we would be in as nice of shop as a dealer and have every tool we would probaly ever need and someone else there that has been to dodge mechanics school but still might have someone else do it. i appreciate all the interest and seggestions.
