I don't think we have it... But many places in VA do.
Not a conspiracy theory. The data supports it. Just more fear mongering for govt funding to justify jobs.CWD is all over the country and has been for decades and most likely much, much longer. The impact on the deer population has been proven to be negligible, but for some reason it stays in the headlines. They would put those resources into slowing down EHD if they really wanted to fix a problem. I've wondered if there isn't some federal government funding to states for CWD work and that's why it continues, but that's just my conspiracy theory. I have no idea.
We have had some areas with a lot of Bluetongue. I think it reduced deer numbers in one area 90 + %.It has been 150 miles north of me for 10 or more years. The state has added tags in those counties and some culls to reduce density in certain areas.
Bluetounge from midges has been the big deer killer.
It is clustered and can knock out the local population for a long time. It takes several good years to rebuild the population. We have had some areas with a lot of Bluetongue. I think it reduced deer numbers in one area 90 + %.
Thats how it is here. One valley across a mountain from me had the most deer i ever seen. Now they rarely get over 5 on a camera per week. Get more bear pictures than deer.It is clustered and can knock out the local population for a long time. It takes several good years to rebuild the population.
