What are the signs? One of my colts has a golf ball size something underneath his jowls. I was pokin and prodin it a little bit and its not to tender to my horse, but is firm to the touch. Someone tried telling me its distemper and let it run its course. My initial thoughts were a tumor. What do ya'all think?
Thanks
Griffin

sounds like strangles. It dont useally affect anything over 3 yrs old. As long as your colts eating dont do anything. If they stop eating you need to give the horse a shot of penicillian. ?spelling or antibiotics. Ask your vet. It will swell up and rupture then the healing begins

thanks for the replies guys, his appetite hasnt been affected as of yet, and for all I know he could of had this swelling all his life, I perhaps just now noticed. I think I will run him by the vet tomorrow and see what he has to say. I will let you know!
Thanks
Griffin

When I had my colt cut he got that same thing about two days latter. The vet didn't have a clue as to why. Just said glands.

with distemper they usually have a cough and their nose has drainage and caked up and stinks. they will tend to blow their nose alot too.

Well the swelling went down, I didnt take him to the vet, just gonna wait it out I think. No change in appetite or no runny nose, I would assume he just cut it someplace and it swoll uip a little. Though I couldnt find anywhere on the swelling where there was a scab or anything...I think I will wait it out a few days...
