Disconnected hip ?

I have a 4 wt pasture calf who had a hip that swelled up for a while. He continues to use it, but the leg angles in toward the body and the top seems to be floating around. He is still growing slowly. Is it reasonable to pen him and feed him out?

I'm feeding one now, about 1100# and I'll have to do that before the ice comes, otherwise he might fall and not get up.
He's been on corn all summer and his rear end didn't put on much weight, but on the front end he's a big bruiser.
