Saw the TV show "Dirty Jobs" this afternoon. Episode had Mike(I think that's his name) at a dairy singeing hair off udders, helping pull calves, doing some AI work, and even helping with a c-section. A good entertaining show.. You can probably catch a repeat this week if you missed it.

They're Holsteins. It's a big dairy. They have three or four veterinarians on staff. They've been around a while. They know what they're doing.

Not the kind of drivel I'm going to watch for "entertainment". I've had to work at a few nasty jobs, remodeling fastfood resturants comes to mind.

:lol2: One man's drivel is another man's entertainment. You should call Mike at "Dirty Jobs" and ask him to come help you do some re-modeling. He's looking for ideas for new shows.

We have had this brought up a few times and yes it is a good tv show. I really like the one where he was preg checking cattle,,,he actually got quite good at it after a while.

BTW for those of you that think you know dairy , unless you have actually had an intensive high producing , one singulary supporting many households YOU DON'T............they are extensive, high maintenance and sh@t happens..but run properly they are a money maker ,a great place to work/live .

FWIW, also where you get your all your dairy products from..

God bless the dairy farmer.... :tiphat: it is defiantely a 24>7 job..

Yea. That came off a little harsher than it should have. That is just another "reality" show I can live without.

Since I've hung my hammer up, don't expect Mike to be calling.

I love that show ~ don't get to watch it unless I am at my moms though. The stuff is interesting and Mike is hilarious!! I saw the dairy one on youtube or his website, I can't remember which. His bloopers are tremendous fun! :lol2:

You got that right!!!! My parents gave us a good life thru their hard work.

i seen dirty jobs at the dairy.an mike was like you mean i gotta do what.an he was getting in the middle of it.i loved it when he was cleaning an working on the manure storage tanks.

The best one is when he was counting snakes. He had to turn over rocks and stuff and count the number of snakes and then I think he had to make them throw up so the reseachers could see what they ate. He got bit like 267 times. It got to be a scream every time one of them would chomp into him. I know it hurt like crud.

I wonder what kinds of shots he has to take for some of this stuff.

I still think he's hot.

Dairy work wouldn't quality as a "dirty job". Oh yeah you get manure from heat to toe, kicked a few times, blood splattered on you etc. etc. etc. but it's definitely a labor of love. Heck when I dairied I could clean out a uterine infection with one hand and eat a hamburger with the other and never give it a second thought. I won't go into how hard dairy families work cause the folks that matter already know that. Wish they would just do a show on "dairy life" period and cover about 7 days.

It is not something I would care to do for a living. Lots of dairies have closed around here. There is a small dairy down the road. Woman that owns it is in her nineties now. Says she has worked three husbands to death. She is interesting to talk to.
