Anyone with experience on direct cut silage vs hay baling? What are the pros and cons? I am looking at the silage option because I don't need to move the harvest far. I can just spread my silage clamps throught my pastures.

did a little on a Dairy while in college, chopped in the field and hauled to silos. Neighbors here hire choppers to come in(about $700/day) and the pack it in a pit. We do a little haylage, 4' round bales wrapped in plastic but it's expensive and slow. Pros: less drying time, good quality forage
Cons: Expense, hauling, machinery cost?
