We had a run in with one of our six children, not wanting to get with the program academically...
Now we never asked any of them to be an all "A" student, but "D's" and "F's" were totally unacceptable..
This one particular child could care less about school and decided that what mom and dad wanted or what punishment mom and dad would do was not significant either...
So we decided rather than butt heads with her... We implemented the "Back to Basics" approach... In that mom and dad would provide here with her basic needs...
One winter she was getting a bit cold and decided that she need a new coat... (Which was right and we were surprised that she lasted as long as she had without one here in Montana)
So I told her to get in the truck and we would go get her one... We headed into town and stopped at the first "Thrift Store"... She asked what we were doing there and I said, "Well you need a coat!"...
"But Dad, this is a thrift store" she said. And there's this really pretty red coat at one of the "Designer Stores"... It has a red hood with a fur trim", she added
"Well I am sure that must be a really nice coat, but remember without a good education you might not be able to afford those kind of things.. And remember mom and I are only concerned that you are warm... Not how you would look in that nice red coat"
"But if you want to pay the difference, we will find out what a good coat cost here the the second hand store and we'll put in that much toward that red coat that you want...
And that's what happened...
I love Carhartt...
What kind of real Designer Clothing do you have in your areas....

All we wear is Carhartt. Everyone in our family has at least one ~ except 15 year old girl who needs the designer clothes (had to laugh at your post).
She wants Columbia.

You might want to dress her up if she can't pass school and help her catch a rich hubby. It might be cheaper in the long run.

Alabama there are more poor guys then there are rich guys out there and I have yet to meet a guy who would dress up his wife. Most I know tell them to get a job. The only women I know who have really nice things went to college and got a good job and buy the nice things they want.

Carhart and Wrangler normally.

i love my Carhartt stuff. kids at school can make fun of me all they want. even if we won the lottery i would NOT buy that expensive stuff. its rediculous.

As far as fancy clothes go I prefer Hanes, every now and then I'll spring for a Fruit of the Loom. Prefer the pocket t's.

With the price of gas and milk these days something's got to go. I'm thinking of starting my own nudist colony. Now accepting applications. Please enclose photo.

My daughter wears a lot of Abercrombie Fitch. It seems to last really well.I admire your resolve I'm sure somehow I would have ended up buying that red coat.

Carhart's are just to expensive from this poor farmer. Have to go with the look alikes.

The only Carhart's I've seen are made over seas. I wear Key as much as possible, they're made or were when I last bought any, in the US

My child does not seems to be interested in the name on labels. Pants are problem for her since she has such long legs.

I have Carhartt vest that was made in USA, but the Carhartt coat I have was made in Mexico. Powder River has nice coats, has lots of pockets inside and out. But it is not made in USA.

I find that a $6 white cotton blouse nicely pressed (by moi) looks just a nice as a $60 white cotton designer blouse. I have never stuck with the fashion trend or designers anyhow.

Is Old Navy considered designer? I have a pair of their $3 flip flops.

For outerwear I like Tough Duck. It actually comes in small enough sizes to fit me and it is tough I don't go through it in one winter. Have to get a coat this year. I do remember my teen days of Sun Ice coats and little heeled boots. Now I want to be warm even if I look awful. The cows don't seem to care. ;-)
Good for you on teaching your daughter a lesson about education. Hope she gets her grades up so she can get the cute red coat.

Designer clothes amaze me, I saw a plain white t-shirt in a magazine at the Dr. that cost something like $120.00, there isn't a t-shirt in the world worth $180 bucks.

We wear Key outerwear. And, I put myself through college. I work too hard to pay for top brands.

Funny thing... middle daughter begged for clothes from specific stores. Never got them. Cried many tears. Thought I was awful. Once she was on her own, going to school, paying her own rent, she starts shopping at second hand stores. She calls and brags on her $1 buys and gripes when something wears out. She'll make it in this uncertain economy.

I buy walmart, kmart, murdochs, corral west, mervyn's, maurices, jc penney & anything i else i find on sale &/or decent looking. lol. i'm not really picky about brand for my daughter or myself.

True: But then I don't see many rich guys hooking up with shabby women.
