I posted a new topic on deferred grazing on
The Future Cow-Calf Producer if anyone's interested.
Very good article.
It is much less expensive to deal with having to much grass than one needs than have to figure out how to deal with not having enough.
I have always believed that one should only stock at 75% capacity and run stockers or bale hay on excess forage. If you cannot do either mow it and put the nutrients back into the ground.
With the rising fuel costs, which affects everything else, it is becoming increasingly important that producers pay close attention to the advice in this article.
Stocking rates on most of the places I have seen will have to be reduced if the owners want to continue making a profit.
It's better to make money on a few than loose your "A" on many.
