today i was checking the cows and found a dead shorthorn in the trees.she had died while calving.she was an 8 year old.heres the thing, she was at another guys farm that i have about 50 head at.i pay him to feed and look after the animals, which includes calving and health issues.i pay one dollar per animal per day.i have had them there for almost a year and mostly he's done pretty good until this.the pasture is right across from his house.i found the dead cow and he did not know about it.when i told him he said he was sorry and that he felt responsible but he did not offer to replace the animal or give me a discount on boarding.do u think he should or what?

I have had to pull a calf from an 8 yr old Shorthorn cow and it left her paralized for 12 hours or more. If we hadn't seen her hiding in some Pinyon trees we never would have known she was in trouble. We had just seen her in the pasture 2 hours earlier and she looked fine.
Your guy might have done the same and just not seen her. Sounds like he did the best he could. Of course he is the only one who knows that.

It does not seem that luck is on your side - twisted intestines, broken penis, open wound caused by halter, blind heifer and now a dead cow. Hope your luck changes soon.

NOBODY will look after your cows or anything else as well as you do

it was probably just one of those things that happen
last winter I went thru a pasture everything was fine 4 hrs later I drove thru and had a dead cow she had layed down in a small depression and got her back down hill and was dead if I had been 30 minutes earlier going back thru she would of probably made it
it just happens! if you think he isn't doing his part find a different way of doing things
at least the guy felt bad if he had been oh well thats tough it might of rubbed me the wrong way
