Hi :D

What color/colors would a Charolais x blk Angus Bull (light grey colored) throw when bred to Charolais cows and Charolais x blk angus cows(also grey colored)???

Any replies would be very helpfull!

"Crap Shoot" is the best way to describe the possibilities with that kind of "color" mix. Shades of grey and shades of charcoal, mixed in with the possibilities of Red Genes sprinkled here and there, depending on how many individuals you are dealing with in the breeding schedule.

Do the various color possibilities make a difference to you for some reason?

DOC HARRIS

50/50 on dilution gene kicking in from both sides (Dd x Dd) =>
25% homo diluter (grey or white)
50% hetero diluter (grey)
25% no diluter (black or red, most likely black)

=> 75% grey or white

i dont know if a certain gene group causes the white or if the homo diluter plays in it. i know a lot of people look at white being an indicator for homo diluter.

if we knew if the straight charolais cow was homo or hetero for diluter, it could be determined. 50% probability of homo means the probability of a grey calf is 87.5%.

after the diluter genes kick in, nobody can tell you what shades will show up; there are a bunch of shade genes.

this is the best i understand the topic. it is possible i am wrong.
