wish one you think will produce havier calves. black brangus cows to hereford bull or braford cows to angus bull.
There will be more hybrid vigor with the f1 brafords topped with an Angus bull. Having said that there is still the genetics of the terminal bull selected.

Why would Angus on Braford produce more hybrid vigor?

Why would Angus on Braford produce more hybrid vigor?

Simple answer. The first scenario does produce the same hybrid vigour as the second scenario.
No difference in hybrid vigour. None.

If there are differences in how heavy calves will be; it must be attributed to the differences between the breeds, and that is not likely big differences.

Brangus is 3/8 X 5/8. F1 Braford is 50/50.
I know there is some retained hybred vigor in brangus cattle but I do not think is is near the F1 .
Also I beleive the same could be said for the F1 Angus being superior in hybred vigor over the 3/8 X 5/8 Braford. But with Braford the ratio is not consistent.

And why not? if you are looking for increased vigor? Look in the heat down here 3 hrs south of you, I have run my beefmasters on any from a angus to a braford to chars, herf, to gerts, and it works and works well, now you may have the conception that Beefmasters are floopy eared loose skinned animals but mine are not, a little shaeth to the naval with a little ear, and add to the fact that I do not pull animals, that calve on their own, I have very uniform calves, they consitently wean 600 lb plus calves, My bull customers have fallen in love with my animals. and when you take a load to the barn buyers want a consistent product. The top breed for vigor are Chars, Simm, Bra, and Beefmaster, Oh maybe your thinking about the Brangus influence crapp, I take a good Beefmaster over a "Great" angus or Brangus anyday. That just has hit me wrong :bang:

Apparently a 12 inch ear and a dangling very sloppy sheath is "a little" to you. Why add more of each to a brangus?? She's already got everything you're trying to promote for your beefmasters.

My putting more Brahman into the mix you're getting away from heterosis and starting to slip into breed regression

Exactly ALA... Why take a 3/8ths Brahman influenced animal and breed it to another 3/8ths Brahman influenced animal? Now that makes me want to :bang:! You are losing Vigor, not gaining it....

I have nothing against Beefmasters, besides the lack of uniformity as far a color goes. I know all about the need for heat tolerance, calving ease, heavy weaning weights, etc.... HeII, I raise Gerts!

Now don’t get your panties in a wad next time when someone questions a crazy idea like putting a dang Beefmaster over a Brangus! :tiphat:

I see what you're saying. I thought Braford was consistent at 3/8 and 5/8.
