I wonder if you guys do creepfeed or not, is it worth it? Please state what breed or cross you have, because some milk better. I currently use blonde dacuitaine bull on former dairycows so I go without.

I've been creep feeding about 4 years now, I have simm and simm-crosses , the last few years we have had some dry times and pastures were hurting , I think it helps. Does it pay? when corn was 2.50 yes , when corn is 4.50 probably not . Before I creep fed I put my calves in the barn and fed them for 6-8 weeks before selling , since I creep feed I take from the cows , let them settle a day or so then band the bulls and vacinate and worm , Usualy two or three days later the customer comes and picks them up. They usually run between 675-750 lbs at about 7 months . The man has been getting them for the past 5 years now and he is very happy with how they do , this year I called him to come look at them and he said he didn't have to see them , they always do good with no problems . he just came and got them.It works I wean nice calves and keep the customer coming back. He never complains about the price, that's worth something too.

I just started creep feeding this year. Cows are charolais/angus cross. For me, it was more than worth it. It's hard to know how much gain is from milk and grass versus the feed. However, I have had access to corn glutein/soy hulls mixed 50/50 for $135/ton. That's less than 7 cents per pound. At that price, my conversion ratio only has to be 1 pound beef for every thirteen pounds of feed. I have no doubts that I am beating that. It also helped with the pastures through the drought and enabled me to wean earlier to take advantage of markets better.
