i got 12 of my cows breed about a month late and when they calve i would like to creep feed the calves so they will be big enough for my county fair. so the calves will be show calves. what do you think i should feed, when to strat feeding it and for how long. thanks

start with a generic calf starter at about a month old, it needs
to be sweet smelling. feed that for a month or 6 weeks and start adding corn, whole or cracked or crushed, until you work them up to about 1/4 corn. If you eventually change them to something like purina pre-con they should do well as long as they have the genetics and good mamas.

good luck

We use a "generic" mill mixed feed in the creep feeders.. a 12% protein mix. We keep it in the feeders all the time. The older calves will teach the younger ones to come in to eat. I've had them in the feeder as young as a week. Really helps develop them, and when you're ready to wean and put on show feed, they are ready to go.
