I have a handful of heifers that I was going to sell at market this week . with stock market tanking I decided to hold off a week or so just to see what it does. I then decided I would post on Craigslist yesterday just to see if I got a bite. I priced them a little about market price. A really fair price. I got a call about an hour later and he came this afternoon. Never dickered and picked the 2 he wanted. He was happy with price and tickled with the calves. They were about 500# avg between the 2 . it's the first time I've sold calves on craigs.

I'm a big fan of Craigslist. I plan to market some bulls on there this summer. Congrats on your success.

Me too. It's a wonderful tool when used as intended. Like everything else, a few idiots sometimes abuse it and give it a bad rap.

We have sold several off Craigslist, everyone that ever actually showed up was serious about buying. Have had a few emails and calls from bargain hunters.

Buying short bred cows at the yard, and waiting a few months, and selling them as heavy bred on Craigslist would probably be a license to print money. I really don't like strangers underfoot though.

There are tons of people here buy at the sale barn and the next day sell on craigs list. I got burned by one lady doing business like this. She sold me a cow say it was great stock when she knew nothing about it. I sell on craigslist but I buy from registered breeders and word of mouth guys with good reputations.

I had a cow whose attitude and phenotype I didn't like came up open, but my dad talked me into 1 more shot with AI. It worked, so I was thinking "ah crap, now what do I do with her?" So I put her on craigslist. 40 days later I had forgotten about it, but someone texted out of the blue with some questions. A bred heifer sale consignment deadline was about 4 days away so I offered to take the nomination fee off her price if he took her before the deadline. 2 days later she was in the trailer, and I got $1000 more than what I would have gotten for slaughter. I never count on craigslist to sell them by a certain date, but it's a nice free marketing tool that just works sometimes.
P.S. they are happy with her, and I'm glad someone can appreciate her far more than I did.

I usually check it every 1-3 days because sometimes people will post a "looking for" ad. Almost sold 2 that way, but I ended up backing out because plans changed and I got sentimental about them. Definitely could have made the sales though.

If I resale something I bought at the sale barn , I have had it for a couple months to make sure it is healthy and have more info about the animal , temperament wise and if they ask where I got it I will not lie about it

I sell my Holstein bull calves on Craigslist, all the time, made out great last year, and even with the down market I still make more than i would at the salebarn

I have sold a lot of cattle equipment on Craig's list. A sweep, alley, head gate ect. Met some really nice people that came out to buy. I guess that I have been lucky by not having any weriod o's call. It worked out well for me.

Got a deposit on 3 heifers this weekend to be picked up next Saturday, 2 really nice guys. Really seemed to like our cattle and was questioning about more. Probably a $50-75 advantage per head over the last weeks salebarn prices. amd not having to haul them. First to come look, had a few inquires though.

I know my family never buys from the salesbarn for biosecurity reasons because you never know what kind of crap is going through that ring
