Hello. I have a cow with knots below both ears. The one on the right has come to a head and some of it has drained down low on her neck to make another, bigger knot. What it really looks like is a horse with strangles. Do cows get something like strangles? I was told to bring her up and lance it and give antibiotics or penicllin. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the help. I deworm my cattle twice a year. In the spring with an ivomec pour on. And in the fall with a ivomec injectable. Both are an off brand type of dewormer that a lot of people in my area use. I'll try and get some pics posted asap. Thanks again.

Here are a couple of pics of my cow. If this is flukes, will ivomec plus work at this stage? What are the consequences of flukes? Thanks so much for the help. No one in my area has ever seen a cow with these symptons.

Run a search for bovine leukemia... sometimes that will cause swollen lymph nodes. It's not treatable and it is contagious. Get her up in the chute and check the other lymph nodes (front of shoulder, back of hind leg) to see if they're swollen too.

That doesn't look like any case of lumpy jaw (actinomycosis - infection) or bottle jaw (worms) that I've ever seen. In your place I'd probably have the vet do some bloodwork on her to check for leukemia, and in the meantime just ship her on suspicion of leukosis.

After seeing the pictures it looks like the cow has lumpy jaw diesease. Buyers at the barn will give you 10 cents a pound as the head will be condemend. You really need to get your Vet to confirm her problem.
