I am looking to buy a cow in the next couple of months for having processed to stock my freezer.. One guy at work said he had a 400 pound cow with a broken leg he would sell me at a cheaper price. he said the cow broke her leg when she was a calf and said by the time I was ready to buy, the cow would weigh around 600 pounds.
He says the cows fine to eat except for the leg, which got me to wondering what kind of problems might arise from this situation? basically wondering safe or not?

If she were taken to a processing plant she would have to be examined by a Vet before she could be slaughtered and if she has a fever the whole carcass would be condemned.

Find another cow.

That sounds like one of those calves I was talking about in another post when I said some people slaughter their crippled cattle and just grind them up into hamburger. I dont think he would sell it to you cheap enough for you to take the chance---if it walks halfway decent, he can get a dollar per pound at the sales barn, and there is no way it would be worth half that for you to buy and just get poor quality hamburger----I would pass
