Now these are bad pictures, mom was taking them because "I can't run the new camera as well as her." So bear with me.

I like 1 and 3 the best. But Jake, surely 2 and 4 aren't yours?? They must be neighbor cows as I know you wouldn't keep cows in your pasture that "aren't very deep"??

Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

they are OLD cows so they aren't as deep as the younger ones but they still have plenty of depth, the just don't show well in these pictures.

jake, do you know the breed or breed mix of that second cow?

1) EXTREME high percentage angus, 5.5- possible 6 frame and wieghs about 1325. weaned a calf at about 650# last year.
2) High percentage angus, over 15/16, 6 frame cow stays in super condition and raises great calves.
3)High percentage angus with less than 1/4 simmi influence. GREAT cow.
4) 14+ year old cow 100% red angus, raises one of the best calves year after year, if we could only get some heifers. thank god this year she had one. in fact #1,3, and 4 had heifers this year!

I like #3. Figure shipping to me, too, while you're at it. :D We bought a group of heifers a few years back from a neighbor- prob. 1/4 simm and the rest angus - they've been such good cows! Easy keepers, great calves, good milk...

I will add that 1 & 2 are grandpas. 3 & 4 are dad's.

Jake - these cows are nothing less than I would expect to see from your program. Good volume, GREAT depth of body, obviously good milking mommas, smooth and I'll bet that the 'elderly matron' at the salt block raises some poppin' good calves!. Any lady that can achieve 14 yrs. of age and still produce profit is a keeper. The Red cow is ok as a commercial producer, but I'll bet you can improve on her by keeping some of the heifers produced by a couple of the other cows in these pictures. I am assuming that you are using OCC Legend 616L for next year's production. The #1 cow should give you a great calf, and if it is a heifer I would plan to keep her. If it is a bull calf, sell it, and use the proceeds to get a couple of sexed Embryo Transfers to catapult your breeding program. Also, let's hope you have a heifer from your 589 Traveler 9099 6110 cow!

By the way - your pasture grass is holding up well! If you are in a pasture rotational program, don't graze it down too low before switching pastures. And don't worry about the pictures. They are only two dimensional! Real life is three dimensional (or more!) and that is what you are seeing when you make management decisions. You are doing a good job. Keep it up!

Do you have your goals posted on the refrigerator yet??
