How many people really pay any attention to the title when they read posts? No one seriously believes that a guru necesarrily has more valid or pertinent replys then a cowhand do they?

Depends on the guru, I guess. I don't have a darn thing to say, yet here I am saying it anyways... Never stopped me before.

I will glance at the number of posts from time to time, especially if I don't recognize the poster.

Not much really, I usually look for quality not quantity in most things. ;-)

I don't use it as a rule as to how much someone knows. Someone could have one post and have years of experience. Someone could be a guru and not know squat compared to others, yours truly included. :P

As with most things in life.. (clothings, the way we look) I think most people pay attention to what title THEY have... and not much of others.. haha

To me the titles mean nothing, one person may have 5000 posts and 4985 of them may be jokes or nonsense and then someone else may have 279 posts and 98% of them may actually pertain to cattle or to the topic at hand, or in other words have some real advice or experience to share with others which may be beneficial to them in some way. Not to say that jokes are bad but some folks know little to nothing about cattle and all they do is joke around and that's ok too.

to me the titles mean nothing.they dont change what i know or what i learn.to me they are just a way to acknowlage the # of posts a person has made.you learn by working an doing things.doesnt matter to me how much time people spend here posting.everyone here knows something i dont care who they are.

Seems to me if you've been on here a relatively short time and you have a high number of posts - then you must have a lot of free time on your hands.

Looks like you may have posted a little more than two posts a day since joining. Is this a short time or a long time to be on.

I've been posting on the board for over two years and you can see that my "post count" is very low. I browse the boards every day. My daddy always taught me that Listening and learning are always more beneficial than talking. There are many more knowledgeable cattlemen and women with higher value added comments than I can make. I learn allot everyday just by browsing.

I think Hoss said it well. I look and read almost everday, but learn alot just doing that. A person doesn't always have to post.

I rarely look at the titles. Why do you ask?

Glad you asked!!!!
I have never figured out the changing of user names just to avoid the title of guru.

In my case Dun, I didn't want to be confused with someone who might actually know something. I finally just ran out of email addresses.

Flaboy, It wouldn't be the same without you.

Dun, You are THE GURU. Plain and simple. Accept it. I have read every single post you have made. Can't say I always agree with you, but I always admire you. You are the "E.F. Hutton" in this forum.

Yep, that Dun feller is ok in my book with one exception. I think that cfpinz feller is a bad influence on him.

I was thinking the other way around. Last time we visited the old fart we weren't there for an hour when he offered to check my wife for ticks!

As far as the titles go, I believe that falls into the Who gives a crap? category.

Well, that might have been something I taught him. :lol2:  :lol2:

I don't watch titles, but sometimes I glance at post numbers... it's kind of a "should I know this person?" type of thing. Or when someone asks for advice and then gets all bent out of shape about the advice they get, I find myself looking at their number of posts to see if they've been on here long enough to know better. :P
