Well this next week is our county show. I have been practically living in our ag barn for the past few days. I have my heifers almost all the way clipped. Now just rinsing and blowin. I am trying to get my ag teacher to get the internet for cattletoday down there but it's not working. Kaneranch

I am taking two commercial heifers. One is a who heifer and the other is an Ice Pick maybe, I am not sure but she is pretty nice especially for our county. We do not have a real competative cattle county. Pigs are pretty competative, but thats about it. Thanks Kaneranch

Sounds 'bout like our county, but only with the goats..our cattle show takes about an hour to and hour and a half the goats start at 3 in the afternoon and aint usually over till about 10ish

Kaneranch, what county? We are in Ada, Pontotoc County. Our show used to be heavy in hogs (300-400), but has really dropped off, and now is fairly balanced. Goats are growing in numbers every year.
Will you show your heifers in OKC? These Texans probably don't realize that the Oklahoma Youth Expo is the largest Junior livestock show in the world, both in entries and exhibitors.

Each eligible Junior exhibitor is allowed to enter 2 Steers and 2 Heifers. If a Junior chose to enter the maximum in all species, they could have 24 exhibits. (Of course they would have to be rich and crazy)
I wish it was like that down here... We are only allowed one steer and two heifers, but if you show a steer you are not allowed to show a hog. Also, I think that beef is the largest show, but hogs run a close second.

That would explain while y'all have more entries. At all our majors, each junior is only allowed to show one of each species. Otherwise, our shows would be too large. We've got classes of 100 steers at some of our majors. And no, that's not the weight breakdown. That's one class within the weight breakdown. And then there will be maybe 6 or 7 classes within that weight breakdown of similar size. Imagine if we could show more than one animal? There would be a crazy amount of entries.AAOK":3kmugabg said:

Yep. And I'm tired of all this raggin on our floppy eared calves down here! Seems like lotsa people want to down em but what a lotta people don't realize is that Texas is the #1 beef cattle producing state in the nation.
