I'm totally against States, Counties, Cities, etc, getting involved with paying for ballparks, and getting involved with the NFL, MLB, etc, when they can pay million dollar + salaries to it's players but cant fund a damn stadium, or access to one.flaboy+":2439znfe said:No, the other Bush son is our governor and he only has free help for the cubans since his wife is from there. Oh, and he did pay to have a walk over bridge built at the Daytona International Speedway. This is to allow folks to walk over a major highway to the speedway. Most everybody I talked to said if the speedway wants it, let them pay for it. No, ol Jeb said, FL will foot the bill. I guess I am a part share owner in a foot bridge now.

Jake, I'm 100% for you. If I had the power to help young Rancher's carry out a tradition, and make something of themselves, I'd do it in a Heartbeat.Son, you're on the right track. You've got something a lot your age dont have. Common sense. take that as a compliment. ;-)Jake":3squh76b said:ok this is an opinion that is probably going to be scorned but oh well. I've pretty good at it anymore.
I think that if the government is going to have programs to give money to farmers/ranchers it's all the better. I don't like the huge subsidies that a lot of farms get but the cost share programs and Ranch grants I'm all for. That's just that much more free money that's not going to the scum of the earth and is staying out of the welfare system. A beginning 20 year old doesn't have the financial backing to get into the industry these days. Why not give him a grant as he's going to work to better his cause afterwards instead of giving that same moeny to some lazy SOB on Welfare?
When are you announcing that you're running? Got my vote.rgv":150do97e said:There are probably many of you that have jobs other than raising cattle. I know that every week when I receive my paycheck there is a running total of taxes paid to date that year. Just boils my blood. Till the goverment can stop all the nonsense of corporate welfare (Ballparks, tax abatment,TIFS,etc) I don't feel guilty at all for getting back some of my hard earned money. They have created a monster that cannot survive without these subsidies.
My tax plan if running for president -
Every week all employees would receive 100% of there pay on there check and would be required to write a check to the goverment for the taxes due. This would open there eyes and generate the greatest tax revolution ever seen iin the US. People have become to complacent and numb as to just how much is being deducted from their hard earned money for foolish pleasure by our goverment.

Also I totally agree with the whole issue of gov. paying for anything to do with sports - that just makes my blood boil - and they have the nerve to complain their not making enough money when they make more in one season then I will probably make my entire life!![]()

I would not have been able to afford the rootplowing and seed for it otherwise. Since I was getting some of my hard earned tax money back I was able to purchase seed of several native forb species, that the NRCS wouldn't include in the cost share, to further increase the biodiversity of that plot. If I can get some of my tax dollars back in order to turn some acres that are all but useless for anything into something both wildlife and cattle can benefit from, then why would I turn down that oppurtunity?
It's not welfare if your getting your own money back. It's welfare if you're taking money from the tax base without giving anything back.

We tried (drought got us) 27 aces of land that had been cropped to death into WSG and native forbes. Conservation paid 75% of the costs. This year they'll do it again since all of the WSG that was planted this year, even by conservation, didn;t germinate.

A few small stands of indiangrass and big bluestem seeded this year. Of the forbs, the maximillian sunflower must have got 150% germination. Illinois bundlflower did well but the deer browsed it down this year. Englemann daisy and prairie clover were complete duds. NRCS would not help pay for lime or fertilizer. It should have at least been limed. I could have afforded that but the NRCS rep. said, "Don't worry, them natives is hardy." Not as hardy as thought, apparently. Little bluestem and sideoats didn't seem to do well either and they can be found in some pretty bad soil.
