I think I saw a post a while ago about something similar, but can't find it anymore.

Have any of you tried battery operated taggers for the RFID buttons on calves, or cattle in general?
Which ones did you try out, which ones worked good, which ones sucked????

I use Ztag one tags to identify the calves and cows, have no problems with applying the Ztags, but have a hell of a time with applying 2-piece tags (Allflex) doesn't matter if it's RFID or regular tags.
Suppose my hands are giving out to arthritis or something and it's painful and difficult for me to puncture the animals ear quickly with the 2-piece tags/tagger.

Something like wear and tear and age creeping into my hands.............. =(

We use the red Allflex taggers for the RFID's. I don't know why they seem to be more difficult for my hands in the last 2 years.
Let me clarify.........I don't want to use a battery operated tagger because it's a new fad or something, it would be nice if I wouldn't even have to look into this, but the force I have to apply for the 2 piece tags is painful in my hands and takes too long to puncture through the calves ears. There is nothing wrong with the manual taggers......... there are things wrong with my hands!!

I find a bit of variability in the sharpness of the pin. A good batch makes all the difference.

I use the red Alflex taggers for some things. The only reason I suggested the Ytex taggers is that they are massive and give better leverage. They may be worth a try. There a lot cheaper than the power taggers.

I bought the Ytex taggers several years ago because I thought I could get another season out of my dad doing tagging because he had lost so much hand strength. We found them too awkward and cumbersome to be practical. Maybe I just gave up too soon, but I didn’t need the mechanical advantage and Dad retired completely so now they lay in a drawer collecting dust.

If you don't want them anymore....... wanna sell them to me?

There's a guy on FB that runs allot of cattle and he only has one arm. He uses the cordless tagger and it looks pretty handy. Anything to make life easier is usually worth doing. Not sure how pricey those taggers are though.
