Just bought a reg. angus cow and found on her papers that one or more of her ancestors is known to carry (CA). It recommends DNA testing. Does anyone know anything about this. Is this something to be alarmed about. She is also AI bred and due to calf in Sept.

You have to pull hair or blood send it off and get it tested for CA i think Pfizer was running some deals on the test at one time. If she comes back positive you will have to check all her calves or just settle for commercial. Whoever you bought her from should have known this, if they were any kind of breeder at all they should have explained it to you before the sale of that animal if it was private treaty. sometimes they put them in a registered sale and its kinda up to u to do your homework, anymore if im interested in a animal from a sale i look up the registration #s

So if she is negitive does that mean she should make a good momma.
Don;t know how good of a momma she'll be but she won;t pass it to any of her offspring
