Anyone have anything to say about Continental rear tractor tires? As compared to Firestones?

Looking for a longbar/longbar with some meat in the lug. Wish they still made Generals.

CF, I put Michilin (sp) radials on my 1486 and I really like them. Got lots of traction but they were a little pricey. They have a traditional tread pattern (long/long). Don't know who makes our local Farm Bureau tires but thats what I took off the tractor.

I run Continental tires because they're cheep. The have lasted just fine for me, wear average, road noise seems pretty average. Michelins? You must make way more money farming than I do. I've had Good Year too, they are nice also, but kinda expensive to replace. One tire I do NOT recomend, and that is any tire with a double short bar pattern. (good year made them) They were suppose to clean out well, and wear well, etc. But they just didn't have good enough traction for my taste.

Thanks for the replies. Haven't bought any rears for a long time, I was surprised to find out just how few choices there were for manufacturers nowadays. Seems like everyone is selling out or consolidating.

Never owned a set of radials, they're worth more than my tractors! I've got two tractors now with the long/short pattern and I'm not overly impressed with those tires.

Ya, I know about the cost! The rest of the story was the local Farm Bureau dealer asked if I wanted to try a set of radials on the rear and I, being dumb and stupid, thought there couldn't be too much difference in price - right? I mean, look at the price difference in bias ply and radial ply passenger car tires (for those old enough to remember bias ply tires).

Anyway, I said sure, I'll try them. Well, let me tell you, the difference in price for those 20.8X38 tires was about a $800 each!!!! I don't think I'll fall into that trap again but I will have to say they work great.

The tires I have on the other two tractors have been on for 15+ years and the bars are still pretty good. They are starting to dry rot though and will have to be replaced in the next few years. Won't be with radials though.

Article on Radial Tractor tires. Most folks around here are using radials as they definitely have better traction.

Wonder if those three JD's in your picture had radials on them?

Matter of fact, yes they did. The other three (that you cannot see) with the bias ply tires.... went completely down and out of sight!
