Artesianspringsfarm came up with a great suggestion for a contest..."I'd love to see one for the best image of your current cattle handling facilities. It's a tough thing to capture in one pic so that others can learn from it and I'd like to see how other people do it. Not the most entertaining subject, but maybe useful."

So whatever you call it, be it a squeeze chute, crush, stock...we would like to see it :D

You have time to submit your entry up until 23 July, the voting poll will be held from 24 - 31 July. All entries to be submitted via personal message to myself, alisonb, on or before 23 July. The winner will be announced on 1 Aug. Pic dimensions should be 640 x 480 pix(or close to that) so please resize before submitting.

Good luck!

I will be watching this one as im getting ready to build anew one .my pile of bent pipe gates went to scrap yard ! an the wall of the barn i use to push critters aginst cant take much more ! that im getting soft an wore out in my old age !

This is the setup at the KG Angus Ranch. Everything is hydraulic including the sweeps and is all remotely controlled. Their set up to work, weigh and AI a cow every two minutes.

oh man! I've worked a few farms where handling facilities were pretty much non-existent unless you count milking herringbone and yards, not even a headgate.
I'd have to look for an old photo find a system that was actually workable, but can take one of my current set-up (and point out the problems) if I can't find a good one.

I've got a headgate. That will make a good pic. I should have taken a picture of the pen that I bought it from. It was grown up with trees and all kinds of brush.

I don't have a photo, but here is the drawing for one I built at a rent pasture a few years ago. It works pretty well, though if I was going to do it again I'd make the alley (at top in the drawing) 10' wide instead of 12'.

This is a tough assignment to get a view of the entire pen in one shot.
CB - It's not necessary to take a pic of the entire pen ;-)

Thanks for sharing Rafter S!

Maybe a collage, or is that using tools that are not allowed?

Let's stick to the squeeze chute for the contest and once they have been posted we can put up pics of the pens etc. ;-)
