That is going to depend on your local resources.
How far would you have to transport the animal to get it to a butcher? Is there a vet close in case you have problems during the time you'll have the animal at home? Are you getting your animals from a neighbor or will it come from a salebarn?
The only thing I can say for sure is the first one costs the most.

We havent cattle yet.. but need find good one meat cattle with small size...

We have barn with two horses will seperate paddock on 3 ac.

there Butcher place about 8 or 9 miles down in Athol, Ma but havent come in and asking question price yet..

I do have vet for my horses and dogs,,, why need Vet for meat cattle? what problem?

Ram

i will trailer cattle to butcher place

You might be money ahead to check with the butcher and see if he/she knows of anyone with cattle that are pretty mucxh ready for slaughter right now. It will save you the wait, expense, and possible problems of raising a steer to butcher. Sometimes butchers even have an occasional side hanging from a customer that only wanted one side and wants to sell the other.

It's difficult for me to determine an good cost comparision for you. To me it sounds like you'll need to buy hay. But you already have infrastructure. Call the packer and see what the prices are. On the vet thing. These are some of the reasons I've called one. Dog chased calf into a t-post(stitches). Left a gate open and one cow found all the corn in the garden(drenched with mineral oil). Why don't you just figure it as entertainment and self satisfaction and not worry about the costs?

Sounds like sound advice if your worried about money.

I felt that some of posts seem angry with me? Maybe I am wrong post this website?

I do load the hays fill up my huge loft all the time and many nearby hayfarm... and have money to care of aniamls etc okie..

My point is that I am try raise my own livestock to feed my family and instead buying meats at store where they feed industry cattles , swines chickens with chemical and make them fast grow so we want natural feed with livestock

My curious and asking that how much from butcher compare store of meats

sorry if its wrong for me post

I'm in MO and it runs 20 to kill and 35 cents per pound to cut wrap and freeze.
I don;t know where you saw any posts that looked angry, none did to me.

You can post whatever you want.

Nobody can really answer your question though about the processing cost. You will need to check with a local processor.

On three acres you are going to spend a lot of money on hay, especially if you already have a horse on it.

It would be cheaper to buy the kind of meat your are looking for from someone else rather than raise it yourself. Even if you cant find it locally their are all kinds of retailers and producers that will ship it to you.

If your looking for a hobby that might put some meat in your freezer then go for it.

PS: If your living on this same three acres, if you go with the hogs I would keep there numbers way, way down. You might consider goats as an alternative as well. If you get a cow, maximize your grass, buy a calf in the spring and butcher it when the grass runs out. Just some thoughts.

sorry My horses is on 8 ac. with 10 ac. trees now so will split 3 ac. for cow and 5 ac. kept with horses

will provide hays all the time and 20 x 20 barn for cattle

My wife fed her horses 4 times plus a day

ok sorry again asking what kind of cattle with less fatty and lean meats?

Phillips....from your location, I'm guessing that you are in North Idaho. Woods Meat Processing up in Sand Point is the closest USDA processor. They have a great reputation and do our market cows and we have had real good results with them. In fact we have a packaged beef to pick up tomorrow.
They also run a real nice herd of Red Angus and have a retail outlet in the lobby and charge less than we do for the same cuts.
Alot of good cattle over in your neck of the woods (literally).

Good luck to you

I think he said he lives in Massachusetts, I could be wrong

I think he's in MA from an earlier post.

I had a Charolais calf butchered a few months ago, and here were my costs, from what I remember (don't have them in front of me).

Calf - free, splitting meat with owner. Normally though, I might have purchased it for $400-$500

Feed, hay, water - $300.00 (120 days on feed in pen, time before that just on pastrure)

Buthcher costs - $260.00

Total price: around $950 - $1,050

Hanging weight was 650 lbs and I believe we got around 300-350 lbs meat.

Yeah her recuse two ex race from auction slaughter.. horses is thoroughbred ? and said they re very hard to get weight .. They seem perfer eat hays than pasture? they will wait at barn for hays and ingore the grass pasture also refused eat apples and carrots? lol so Vet told her feed free hays to her horses.. some ppl beleive that her horses never been in pasture for 8 years they re kept in stall and race... so anyway she own them for 10 years ! so  they re about 18 to 20 years old and Every June and Aug that next door neighbor let 20 llama and alpaca come my pasture so my horses kept in paddock because they will kicks and chased them!

Thanks

Yes I am location in Massachusetts...

I see the price now

umm I guess we re contuince buying meats at Joe trader!

Do you know " Organic" or "Natural" meat buy Online? Not want any meats with chemical or make them grew fast something alike that

Thanks so much
