I gotta tell you guys, for me, bermuda is an amazing grass. I'm currently working with about 20 acres but this past year we planted an additional 70 acres. Seems most of it has rooted and now that our baling has slowed a bit, I'm turning my attention to some of the areas that we planted.

The following photos are of a pasture we planted over several weeks in late July and early August. We sprayed for broadleaf back in September but due to work load, basically forgot about it for a couple of months. When I recently turned my attention to it, I was amazed at just how well the bermuda had done. Yeah, there's still lots of broadleaf in some of these photos, but that was the point....to show something of a before/after photo. All the photos are from the same pasture.

This pasture will be producing bales next year of "commercial" bermuda, which for me means that I won't mind my customers buying this stuff because it'll be pure. Lemme know what you think. :D

Looks good and will only get better with time. And glad to know my birds made it down there safely. Was wondering where they went.

Whitewing, I saw where Chavez nationalized some large ranches. Is this possible with your place?

With Chavez, anything is possible. Having said that, I'm doing what he's asked all ranchers to do....make their land productive and thereby contribute to the economies of the local pueblos.

Venezuela has lots of rich farmland other natural resources and yet imports a huge percentage of its food needs. That needs to change, certainly.

I won't get into the politics, but from what I've read most (though likely not all) of the large ranches that were nationalized were huge tracts of land that were basically inactive....most owned by multi-national corporations for many years with nothing more than a caretaker on hand. Certainly a big part of the nationalization process is for public consumption before the elections, etc, but I can also understand the desire to put large tracts of land into cultivation after years and years of inactivity.
