I buy goodie box's at sales and auctions and get my money's worth most of the time. Last Month I bought 5 Rubbermaid totes full of junk. I have been going thru them and I hit the jackpot wrenches files bits screwdrivers etc. I gave 5 bucks a box for them. I have gotten some old wrenches and pliers over the years and today I was cleaning up a couple pair that was in the box and when I started putting them in my tool box I realized I had a nice little collection of quality made tools. I use them regularly so they are not a collector item. I just like the quality of them. This is not all of the ones I have but a good representation of them.

I agree that the pliers at top left look like Klein's, and if they are then I'd think they're worth what you paid for all 5 boxes, and everything else is gravy. I have an old pair that were my father's as far back as I can remember, and they'll cut barbed wire better than most pliers that are made to cut it.

I've had some wooden handled screwdrivers similar to a couple of those in your picture (the ones with the notches in the handles). They didn't hold up well for me, but maybe you'll have better luck with those.

My Dad collects the old Ford tools that use to come with the old cars and finding one of those would pay for several boxes

I like old tools. I have a bunch of old hand tools from Grand dad. My Dad was willed a huge drill press/mill machine from him. My Dad died 6 months before Grand dad did. My Aunt, the Executrix, just recently told me that it was mine. Problem is I think the tool shed was built around this monster. It a huge machine. The drive mechanism is a hand crank, but has an inertia wheel that appears to be able to hook up a belt drive, and it has "gear shift" levers. The table can be engaged to move 2 axis, the drill head can be engaged to move vertical. I really think it is an old milling machine, but even while standing there drop jawed gawking at it, I can't understand how to make it work more than one axis at a time. The shed only has a couple light bulbs and the electric was turned off years ago. I can only go into the dark shed which only has one personnel size door. It's like a cave and smells like old oil and grease. I take lights in there with me, but its still like a cave and seems like the light gets sucked away into another time. I would have to remove a wall from the building to get it out, so it sets where it is for now. Someday I want it to be in my shop, even if just for looks and conversation.

I should have took pic of everything I got. There was probably 20 wood paddle bits . Hole saws. A coffee can full of drill bits. Several cold chisel and punches. 10 or 12 rattail and triangle files. A tape measures and hammer in every box. Sockets ratchets and at least 100 end wrenches from 1/4 to 1 1/4" most of them craftsman 20 or 30 screw drivers wire brushes and lots more small stuff. The day of the sale I saw all of the the boxes laid out and knew he was going to sell choice on them. I started the bid at 2.50 and when it got to 5 no one else bid. He asked which box I wanted and I said all of them. There were several jaw drops and a few walked away I was expecting them to go for 12 to 15 bucks each.

I love auctions like that. The jaw drop expression in that situation is priceless, but hey if you snooze you lose. The most popular auctions here locally is a lady owned business. I graduated high school with her. During her normal "speech" routine, giving instruction and rules, at the beginning of each auction she will remind everybody "ain't no friends at auction" :lol:

A little oil and a wire wheel and they cleaned up nice. Still pretty sharp and the blade does not have any nicks.

I have a pair of Kleins in every truck. Linemen toss them when they get a little dull. If they had to buy them they wouldn't do that. The cut barbed wire just fine. Love having two pair when I splice.
