...........I bet I have heifers calve tonight  They do it to me every year. They stand around and eat hay all contented like until the weather gets nasty and then they calve. I don't worry too much about the mature cows but I always keep an eye on heifers. Now I have to get up out of bed and stumble through the dark pasture in the rain and cold....not good. :cry2:

Hoss, I'm hesitant to post this for fear of jinxing things but we've calved out 8 of 15 1st calf heifers we purchased last fall and so far we haven't had a single issue. All are registered Angus and the calves have been low birth weight and hit the ground running as advertised.

Hopefully we won't have to pull one because at 80 I doubt my mother in law will up to the task.

I'm right there with you Hoss... looks like it is starting to snow a little here now! Fortunatly I just have mature cows calving right now.

Good luck!

Be careful you don't step in a poodle.

Got several that are due to pop any minute - one that probably will go tonight - but she's a mature cow, so should not be a problem. Most heifers not due 'til next week - hoping for better weather.

Hoss,
How did you make out on the calfs last night? We had three new babies this morning... all doing well.

Brian
Checked last night at 1 a.m. and went back to bed. Got up before daylight but was running late for work so I didn't check. I'll have my dad drive out there this morning and see. Heifers were bedded down near the hay rings last night. They usually head for the woods when they calve so maybe another day or two.
