Coffee can chicken

I am learning my webber charcoal grill. If I do this, how would I set the bottom and top vents, or would it not affect it? Would I even put the top on the grill? I want to try this!

I would only use the grill on a windy day. It's not necessary at all otherwise. I also don't start my charcoal in the can, and I use a tad more than they do. I've never seen the stuff they smeared on the chicken. I use dales sauce.
 
I wonder what happens to the white epoxy Bisphenol-A coating in the can on the far side of the grill when it is heated by the briquets?
