Just got some news from the vet today. He said that every month he will test a stool sample from every ag students animals for free to make sure there isnt anything wrong, and of course there was. He said every animal at the school farm has coccydia (1 bull, 2 heifers, 2 steers, 3 goats) and one other parasite, it ended with lyn, cant remember the name. One of the goats was treated for this a month ago, and was near death from it. Right now its nothing severe. Can anyone give me some info on this? All I know is its a parasite and is expensive to treat ($33 for one syringe for a goat, dont know how much cattle need). Next Monday he is coming out to treat everything. He was going to check around for the price of the medicine for farm use instead of going through his medical supply, just to save some money. Id like to find out more about this parasite, what it is, what damage is can do, how much it costs for cattle, etc.

Thanks

Do a search using Google. Type in 'Coccidia + Cattle' and you will get all the information you need.

We had a bad infection of coccidi last year. We penned the infected cows and calves up so we could control their water. Added Corid to the water for 14 days. No more coccidi. One jug of Corid was $70. It was do that or give antibiotics orally for several days. Corid was much cheaper and easier.

My vet said sometimes cattle get trace amounts, but as long as they don't have the watery runs, not to worry. Most will get over it with dry feed (hay).
