Am I the only one who finds the show a big disappointment/joke? Carrie Underwood can sing but she sure can't read cue cards naturally. Taylor Swift for album of the year? Pu-lease! And whats his name covering the Charlie Daniels "signature song" Devil Went Down to Georgia? What, they already covered all the suitable rock songs so now they're gonna cannabilize each other?? I'll sure be glad when hubby goes to bed and gives up the remote...........

Did Hank Locklin win anything? What about Hank Snow?
I know Skeeter Davis had to win something along with Kitty Wells.

No but little Jimmy Dickens did a bad imitation of the interruption of that awards show where the guy busted up Taylor Swift's acceptance. He's pushing 90, does that count?

Sounds like Curtis likes the real country music. Most of this new music hurts my old ears. If you young folks had lived in our day you would understand.
Tom.

i figured it would be so i didnt watch.. CMA C'ountry M''y A'ss

I read this arcticle on how the Judd singers think its too fast too soon for Taylor Swift, winning all the awards she did plus entertainer of the Year. I wonder are they just jealous? I like Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood, but I got to agree some of their music is not really country. They honored Barbara Mandrell last night, I thought that was nice, Martina McBride sang her song, I was country when country wasn't cool, and to me that is really country music.

As for Enertainer of the year, I think this award should go to someone with alot of experience, time on the road, as much as I like Taylor Swift, she is only 19, and has only been on the road for a few years.

What I did not like about the show was all the corny jokes relating to the Kayne West thing and Taylor Swift, give it a break already, hate to say this but he zapped himself and made her even a bigger star, hence her popularity increased just in time for the award shows.

Remember LeAnn Rimes, she was once in the same place as Taylor Swift, what happened to her, she looked like a freak last night, and was obviously very nervous, and I think her latest personal life issues, were not well recieved, the audience seemed to almost shun her.

Sex appeal sells records anymore not true grit talent-alot of pretty people on the outside, not sure whats on the inside though.

Didn't Taylor Swift get Enertainer of the Year, too?

We haven't watched the CMAs in years. I bought an MP3 player. So far I've downloaded all the CDs we own, sorted out what I liked and didn't, to make my own playlist. Soon as I get time I'll look at the older music we've got on cassettes and see if it's available to buy online. The entire music industry is struggling these days, but I've pretty much tuned country music out. It's great to hook up the IPod and listen to the good stuff again. :D

boy! that doe's tell you that country music is in the tank..

At least the Judds can sing. Taylor Swift just cannot sing. She didn't even show any sex appeal last night. Her hair looked like a cat had been sucking on it. I thought the young lady that sings with Sugarland did a good job on song they sang and looked very pretty as well. Give Taylor Swift a couple of years and she'll be history like so many others.

I thought her opening performance was kind of different, too much pawing at her hair, and rolling around on the stage, it was kind of when you watch osmeone and you can't watch it because you think they are making a fool out of themselves. I guess I'm the only one who thought that though, they went on and on this morning on the radio how great that performance was.

Just me, but I think Taylor Swift is a prodigy. In 30 years, people will complain that country just isn't like TS anymore. :D
It's bubblegum stuff, but she writes most of it (I think) and that talent will keep her going for years. If she is this good young, she stands a chance of writing something memorable. Or not.

Sort of like Chris Kristofferson....a genius mind, a great writer but can't carry a tune in a bucket.

Interesting comments here and in the thread.

I sometimes read these threads and start to think on things a bit as I am not in a position to see them or watch them any more.

In fact I have been out of country for two years and when I think on what I used to watch and how I looked forward to events like the CMA I now wonder why.

Despite living in an part of the world that does not have a lot of western values, there are indeed a great number of travelled people over here. And not all of them delivered equipment for terrorist organizations. 8)

While I understand it is not about entertainment as much as it is about making money - there are probably less than .001 of one percent of people over here that have even heard ofTaylor Swift - and in all honesty I cannot even picture this person and I am sure even Radio Jordan which is the most liberal station over here - is listened to all over the middle east and which plays all sorts of music - has never played this person on the air waves. I can say the same for Carrie Underwood.

How things differ and little they matter to many of us when away from the noise and the hype.

I wonder how well some of these entertainers would do if they were unable to show lots of skin and sexual innuendo on a video and we were only able to listen to them. It seems to me that tits and a$$ - have become more important than the music.

When I came over here I thought I would miss the music - funny how I have not given it more than a passing thought until tonight. I wonder if that is either telling of the quality of the person or the music of today - or perhaps both?

Anyways - not attempting to hijack the thread - just thought I might pass on how it has not only diminished in importance to me - but in fact country music of today does not even matter enough for me to listen to it any more.

Enough philosophy for tonight.

Best to all.

Cheers

I didn't watch and I have not watched in a long long time. Taylor Swift and the rest of the screaming country divas don't do a lot for me. I've taken to listening to the classic country station. What they have on the other stations aint country. Award shows in general turn me right off. Too much hype and show. Taylor Swift is the Hannah Montana of country.

Where's that vomit smilie?
