We've just had 2 calves die from Clostridium A. The vet posted both of them. We get dairy bull calves at 5 days old after they've had enough colostrum, have them on the same milk replacer that the dairy starts them on and give them calf guard & neomycin. Does anyone have any suggestions of what we could try doing to prevent Clostridium A? We hardly ever loose a calf, so this is a new one for us.
Thanks!

How old were they?

Ask the vet if the C&D Antitoxin will work... if not, then ask him to order in some antitoxin for clostridium A. If you give them the antitoxin at the first sign of illness (or maybe better yet, when you first bring them home) that should halt your losses.

What antibiotics did you try treating them with?

They were 8 - 10 days old.
