Circle hooks are kinda new to me. Got kids coming for spring break and my tanks (ponds) are going to get a work out. I would like to remove most of the channel cat's 2 to 5 lbs. And maintain my growing 1to 2 pound hybrid blues. Kids are bad about gut hooking and I think circle hooks might be the answer. Been playing with em a few days. Hard to learn not to jerk. Anybody else use em.

Got this one will I was drinking my coffee this morning. Just left the rod in the holder until it loaded up.

I've been using them for several years. Work fine with bait, not very well with plastics.

A circle hook is by far the easiest way to practice catch and release. But releasing a catfish with a de-hooker might be a little dangerous for a young inexperienced person.

I had to google a circle hook. It only looks slightly different that what my kids fish with. What is the advantage to using one?

The advantage is it slides as the line tightens and the circle part usually hooks over the lip/jaw.

Yeah they seem to work quite well. Even if a fish swallows the hook it slide up and catch in the corner of the mouth. You just can't do the old cross his eyes hook set. I bet they do work good on trotlines.
I 've been googling on em to. Although it seems relatively new to modern fishing.
The technology is almost as old as man himself......sometimes old tricks deserve a second look..... ;-)

Been using a variant of the circle hook for more than 10 years called the Kahle hook. The reason I started using it was because most of the time it hooks the fish in the lip and it's easy to remove without damaging the fish. Good for catch and release.

With a circle hook all you have to do is lift the fish up. Put a de-hooker on the hook and pull the line in a circular motion and the hook comes right out. Getting the hook out of the fishes mouth is the easiest part of the whole deal.

This may be something I need to look in to. The kids can go fishing, and bait hooks etc. Nobody seems to be able to get a fish off the line. By the time you take the fish on a 30 minute round trip on a 4 wheeler to me, there ain't much life left in him
