Chips

Chips in gas engines very rarely improve economy, unless you are starving for power. And you need to watch, as many chips will then require you to run higher octane fuel to make up for the bumped timing.

The SCT chip has three tunes for different octane fuels. That's what I use. There may be others but that is only one I know of for sure.

I have a 2500HD 8100 Vortec, and I realized that I would not get good mileage, that isn't why I bought it but was curious if a chip would give results without sacrificing too much....

I use the SCT in a 05 Mustang. My truck is diesel and I use Diablo in it. When I say chip, it is actually a programmer. You can check SCT and see if they have tunes for various octanes for your specific engine.

The gains from a gas motor and chip is nothing like the gains obtained with diesels though.

That is what I am hearing. Probably not worth the $s comparitive to number of miles improvement? I sure don't need more power, got plenty to spare but it is my "daily driver" too and was curious about possible improved mileage tricks.
