Here's the reason given in the article: "we also expect our company officers to behave in a manner commensurate with their position and in a respectful fashion that conveys these values of civility with others."

I suspect the guy that fired him and everybody else connected with the company were sick and tired of his bullying self righteous attitude and were just waiting for an opportunity to dump his sorry butt and this was it

Arizona is an employment at will state and unless he was under contract he could be fired for no reason. The exception would be for discriminatory reason.

Id' say he had every right to pester you. Leaving your pompoms at his place is kind of like a girl leaving makeup and a toothbrush at your place for us regular guys... You kinda gotta wonder when they don't come back for it.
