Been quite a while since I've kept up with everybody and let everybody know what was going on and since there are so many I thought it would be easier to just post a topic instead of sending a bunch of pms.
I graduated a semester early back in the first part of the year to head to college and be down by the farm to take care of things as our family has taken some real hard blows this year and can't wait for the year of 2007 to be over with. I'm now studying Agricultural Economics, working at another bull stud here in Kansas now from the time class gets out til after dark most every night. Still pullin my grades while working 30-40 hours a week so I can pay for school.
Lonepine has started to slow down some as I've stepped in and furthered the process of taking of the cattle part of our operation. With the grass shortage in our area our herd number has dropped considerably over the past 6 months. We had a bad run in with Selenium deficiency because of a feed problem on our bred heifers and lost our first 10 calves before we knew what hit us. Took trial and error treatment in the end to fix the problem as none of the tests or lab results were coming back with anything other than secondary diseases. But luckily we've only lost 2 calves out of the cows this year so they are doing very well and so far I am more than happy with the way they are growing.
All in all the year has been rough but the strong keep going and I trust that God has it planned out for us. The experiences of the year will only build character and finish out my growing up (what little left there was to do).
I hope everything is well with everybody and I'm glad to see some of the old faces are still here mixed in with the old. If anybody is ever passing through North Central Kansas make sure to give me a hollar.
