Well, I have had this prescription sitting on a shelf for over 8 months. I want to quit smoking. I had quit for 21 years then started again....I know, DUMB. Kept hearing bad stuff about the medication so didn't take it. Today, I took the first one. Now am concerned. Seems like there were folks on here that had tried it? Is it worth it? Did it work? Supposedly I take it for 7 days while still smoking then quit and the craving is supposed to be gone?

My myaelf and the nighbor that used it we wasted our money. I did manage to lose a lot of weight when I was taking it though.

the best way to quit smoking dipping or chewing is cold turkey.i quit dipping 7yrs ago this month.an i dipped snuff an chewed tobbacco for 18yrs.

Everyone I know that has taken Chantix has quit. Some have had upset stomachs, but not real bad, some have increased dreams, and they seem to be more vivid, but no nightmares. I want to quit also, and I want to do it with the help of Chantix. The only person I know, who has not quit fully yet using the drug is my dad. And he has been on it now for like 4 months, and he has mostly quit, but does not use any will power in "social" (bar) situations, and will just smoke. I think he could overcome that last hurdle by putting a bit more effort into it.

Go for it, and I think you are really to try and force yourself to smoke your regular habit during the first week, not matter how icky you feel with the drug.

Good luck and keep us posted.

It gave the wife some really crazy dreams.

Both of us got on it, both of us still smoke.

You have to really want to quit in order to do so. Plain and simple.

I really don't know what to tell you. I smoked for 35 years and tried everything from cold turkey to hypnotism to gradual quiting to smoking a pipe to quit, all without success. I tried the Chantix and not only did I quit, but I actually stopped smoking a day earlier than I was supposed to. On Sept 10 I will have been smoke free for one year.

Now the other side of the coin. It did indeed produce vivid dreams (no nightmares, just very vivid, memorable dreams). However, the scary part was the paranoia, irratability, and depression. It was so bad I quit using after six weeks instead of the recommened twelve, yet it was successful.

As I said, it does work and not everyone suffers the really bad side affects although some actually go through much worse. Type it in on the Topix message board and read some of the posts. Quite alarming.

I leave it to you to decide after you read all about it. If you do use it, follow the directions exactly, have a loved one keep a very close eye on you, taper off and try quiting before the recommended time. If you start feeling urges, take it again for a few days then try quiting again. I hope this helps.

Lord have mercy, I have paranoia, irritability and depression all without taking this stuff. I should quit, but not that way.

I didn;t have any of those, just the galloping pukes. That's why I lost so much weight

I tried it- it tore my stomach up and I tried to tough thru it for a week. It took me 6 months to get my stomach back to normal.
On the up side it really did calm my cravings for the short time I took it.

Try it CKC!!
If you live to tell the tale ~ I'll give it a whirl! I have been wanting to, and it sounds like a great way to quit smoking and lose weight at the same time! You go first! ;-)

Well, I went online and read everything I could find.....I think I am going to pass on the Chantix. Don't want the kids to find me hanging in the barn. I will give it another try on my own. When this carton is gone....I'm done.

I already know that to quit smoking I'll have to quit drinking too. A cold Bud makes the craving unbearable. I'd be so danged healthy, people wouldn't recognize me. I might go vegan and shave my head and get a piercing or two.
