Champion ham fetches $2.8 million

I have a different take on the situation than my jaded friend from Georgia. I see it as a sign of prosperous times when folks can pony up that kind of money for charitable causes.

Good for them!

I can agree with that, but people have been donating the last 8 years also. I donate to the NRA and have to pay taxes on that money. If you donate to something everyone can use I can see that being tax deductible. Follow the donation money to Goodwill and the Red Cross a new store is popping up in every town big business.

This was in my local paper. Skyhightree you need to start putting some of those hams in auctions....

The champion ham sold for a record-breaking $2.8 million at the 55th Annual Kentucky Country Ham Breakfast and Auction Thursday morning. That comes to $165,000 per pound.

I think your right I need to

All this boils down to is seeing who’s is the biggest. I’m a firm believer that some people just have too much money. But I’m always amazed at how they managed to amass these large sums of money with spending habits such as these. But it’s there’s to do with as they see fit. Maybe someone who needs it worse will benefit from the donation.

If I ever accidentally have any substantial amount of money I vow to send a substantial amount to St Jude’s. I have a very soft spot for the children there.

I been to charitable events and seen people bid things up way to high...even done it myself a few times. Nothing like 2.8 million but that’s all relative to what you make. One thing I always like to see is if things aren’t going well at the auction somebody will run something up pretty good and when win they when say “sell it again” this gets things rolling.

I’m with JMJ on St. Judes, got a buddy that donated his weekly winnings to them for around 30 yrs.
