Ok, I've got yet another question.

Recently we came across alot of cedar stays (and posts), and we have decided to make a 150 stretch of fence with them. There are t post's every 10 foot and cedar posts every one foot. We looked at some fences along the roadside and found that alot of people dont even stretch their wire.
This is the first fence we have ever built like this, and we have really no idea of how to do it. Just taking it all as it comes.

Well, just let me know any Tips 'n Tricks on building a cedar fence

Thanks

We put in our support posts/ bracing, then stretched our bottom wire as tight as we could without breaking it. Then we put in 4 T posts every 10', then a 4-5" cedar post. After the posts were in, we put up the rest of the wire. Then, we went back and put in 5' cedar stays (around 1-2" in diameter) every foot. In the summer, with the heat, the fence will stretch, so you want it to be tight to start with.

Personally, I think the cedar stays was a waste of money and time because we built the fence right. But, it looks great and the bulls dont seem to get after each other as much.

I just got back from a drive through the heart of Texas and saw a lot the fences you are describing. Why do folks use so many posts and stays???

We usually put a post about every 16' and never use stays.
