Well the past few months I have learned a lot on here and most of all I have learned the value of having a Mentor. Can you guess who my mentor is?


· I have quit petting my cows,
· I no longer let my dog run loose,
· I shoot any dog that comes on the place,
· sold my float tank,
· buy more hay than I could possibly need
· sold my $45,000.00 truck to buy an old 80 model
· Sandblasted my farm name off of the 12 ft stock trailer
· Got rid of my 10 gallon hat and got a dirty John Deere hat I bought from a guy at the sale barn
· Got rid of the silver tip cowboy boots, now wear Red Wing
· Shot a cow the other day because it ran wrong way through the alley way (don't want any problem cows anymore)

· And got myself some new pets (below), since we do not have any wild Pigs I had to buy some. But I think I got a good deal, only averages around $400.00 each for them

One of them is a boar that in a day or so will get a visit from the old buck knife, named him Caustic

Look like them two Yorks have been run through a thicket. Why are they so scratched up. Like the Hamp.
 
i figured that was where aplus bit 'em trying to be like you. oh wait...that was the other way around.

ive always liked hamps too.

The hamp in with the Yorks was a mean one, they got in some serious fights before they established the pecking order. Them pigs can get pretty mean sometimes. :D
 
Caustic be sure and let me know if I have missed anything I need to make the trasformation over from Hobby to Part time Cattleman.

I did forget one though, told all the cows that from now on they will not be called Bessy, Cupid etc....they will now have to answer to 101, 102, etc....

Here's a key CB Cornerstone you overlooked:
I take complete and full responsibility for everything that goes right or wrong with my operation.

While I have never been a hobby farmer, I can still learn from CB. When looking a hard task in the face, his words go thru my head, I steel myself to the task, and forge ahead.

Aplus - Next time you throw new hogs 2-gether, dump out a can of beer to each hog for that day. Mellow 'em out - not such a rough go for new guy. Enjoy the Chops.
 
Sure seems like a lot of $$ per pig. Santa brought my boy's pigs to him for Christmas and only charged me $30. :roll: :shock:

Well to start I prefer bib overalls blue jeans are like a cheap motel no ball room.
Also prefer Wolverine wook boots to Red Wing
Need to get more hay never can have enough hay it will improve your sex life lowers your stress level when you have plenty of hay.
You didn't mention tractor still prefer the Old Massey 135 and 265 Clutch went on the 265 after 30 years reminds me need to find out if that is still under warranty.
Old trucks with stock trailers make for a more pleasant drive to the salebarn you can get up front parking as hobby boys are scared they are going to scratch theirs, also on the way there the only people you have to worry pulling out in front of you are little blue haired old ladies..
 
Them hobby boys got a reason too be scared .dont think those fellers in the old equipment wont run all over your truck and keep going i learned several years ago to keep distants between me and the next feller ;-)

Caustic, I bought one of those last year. An old rich lawyer had it, he passed on, and his young widow couldn't maintain it. She bought her a brand new little thing with all the gadgets. I paid $5K for the massey and it has a front bucket. The front wheel was split and I had two spares wheels just by accident. The ignition switch didn't work so I added a push button. I had to open the gear slots to get all the gears. I took out hand fulls of crud beneath the cab and got all the linkages free. It has a Perkins 6 and absolutely everything works but the air conditioning. It took two days of tinkering to get there, but it is a very good tractor. All the glass is intact too. I have considered fixing the A/C but that's about it, "considered" it.

I am still running it with just one battery. It needs two but I have never had problems starting it. It is supposed to have dual rear wheels but only has singles, as it came to me.

I would have given you the pigs, all you can trap. Caustic might have cut you the same deal. ;-)

Yea they get expensive, my oldest son paid $800.00 for one of the black ones. More than we have ever spent before but last year he won Reserve Grand Market hog at our County fair and with his premium money he had a little more to spend. He is planning on Jack-potting her a bunch, last year he cleared around $500.00 just in Jackpots not counting his County Premium and this pig is a nicer hog. Hope it works out for him, if not he will learn a lesson in economics I guess.

He's not blowing his nickels on drugs like a lot of "sons" our there are. Still $800 is a lot of nickels.

I know all the time I am thinking I could almost buy a bred cow for that money. But he thinks he is a big time pig man now :D
