I believe in Texas the punishment for cattle rustling is still a public hanging. Thats what the law says, but too bad they dont follow it anymore.

Pippin a convicted cattle rustler in Quanah, Texas recently got 8 years. Don't think the punishment is hanging anymore, although I would certainly support it if it was.

It goes on here in Australia. Some saleyards in Victoria (State) have introduced a card system to pickup cattle out of yards after hours. The card is used like a visa card etc,it has to be swiped to open any gates.
A man was recently gaoled for thieving cattle from two saleyards in Victoria and off properties in the next state (NSW),he took them to Queensland the next state to the north.
A friend of mine recently had at least 40 head of high quality (some stud) Brahman cattle stolen from his property that he is leasing back from the new owners. The mongrel or mongrels not only stole the cattle they left some to die in the yards and some did die in the yards and others may never recover. Yes bring back hanging.
