I have a lone Cattle Egret that stays here and now it is November. He is here first thing every morning and it is getting cold. Still there are crickets in the grass, but seems he should have left to go to Florida or Mexico. Cannot find any info on how long they stay. I do have a running creek of water with small fish in it that goes around the property. But, not sure if I need to get him a ticket to head further South as I am in West Tennessee.

Is anyone still seeing these birds hang around now. It is November 7th and seems he should have made traveling plans.
Just wondering......

Monday morning in N Alabama should get its attention and send it south . Low 20’s with wind chill in the teens . Daughter has a teacher work day so we keeping both her girls . They are excited because it’s spitting snow .

Yeah, woke up to 28 and windy this morning, and supposed to get even colder in the morning. Wednesday thought til next Monday, we will see 60's and maybe even into the 70's again, then it is going to set in raining again Monday. Thank the Lord I only have those 7 heifers and 2 horses up here now. I was going to keep them a while and see what kind of cows they make. Maybe try a couple different kinds of bulls with them , etc. But now I am re-thing that! LOL. I don't need to sell anything else in 2025, though. But come January, I might just let some people that have asked about them come get them! I am becoming more and more convinced that God's plan for me, is to be down south on a river inland a few miles from the coast, and split my time between trout, redfish and flounder in-shore, and bass, crappie and catfish in fresh water!

I wish I had more during the summer. The one was entertaining to the horses as Joe would follow him around. Named the bird, "Joe's Chicken."

The reason I asked when he would move on, he loved sitting on the side of the water trough and pooping into the water. I had to dump the trough twice a day. I learned not to fill it so full but enough for the horses. The bird had plenty of water as a running creek always has water in it around the property.

He often would perch on a fence post, and poop on the insulators and it would short out the fence for a little bit, but I was not always sure what was causing it as I have trees around the property, and thought maybe a limb fell and took it down. So when I heard the popping noise, I had to go check.

I have always enjoyed seeing the birds, and I was OK with him. But he did not have a flock to hang out with so he stayed with the horses all the time.

It dropped down to 24° here the last two nights, and so he has moved on.
I hope he brings a few others with him when he comes back next year. Then maybe they will roost in the trees this time.
